Avoid this property — one of the worst accommodation experiences I've had.

The location was convenient.

The boat appears to have been an ex-pizza restaurant hastily converted into holiday accommodation. It certainly did not feel like the comfortable, clean houseboat we expected. There were over 30 fruit flies throughout the entire open-plan space including bedroom When we raised this, the owner dismissed our concerns by claiming there were only three river flies. We also found food debris and three mouldy cans of spray whipped cream in the kitchen. There was a strong chemical smell (chlorine specifically), and the owner described anyone complaining about it as a liar. Perhaps the most shocking aspect was the owner appeared to be living or sleeping with their young child in a makeshift, shed like structure just two feet from the boat's entrance, on an extension at the back of the boat. In the Booking.com app chat, the owner stated: “As for me staying in my office, what is wrong with that, the office is completely outside the boat it is build on an extension at the back of the boat, I have never had a complaint about this before.” I explained to the owner that it was like advertising my whole house for rent while actually living in a tent in the garden. I felt unsafe and was just lucky I wasn't alone. We had to leave and immediately, staying for around 30mins. I had to spend £338 on alternative accommodation, on top of the £300 paid for the boat — £638 in total, plus over £100 in additional transport costs. I genuinely wanted to stay, but the experience left me in tears and disrupted our holiday. The handling of the refund was another major disappointment. A 50% refund was agreed verbally, through WhatsApp and again in the Booking.com app chat.Despite these repeated agreements, the refund remained unresolved. I was subsequently told that, without a direct email from the owner to Booking.com, they would do nothing. Having an agreement acknowledged through multiple channels, only to find that it apparently wasn't enough to get the refund processed, is awful.

Just the ticket for a boys fun time. The owner was helpful and he made me a coffee on exit to die for.

Just the location is a large barge so the toilet is seaworthy but not land worthy. But it worked so we could enjoy stay. Boys were not bothered at all and the fun features multiplied !

AVOID

Unfortunately, we were unable to stay overnight as planned. Shortly after arriving, we found a very large spider in the sleeping area. Given the circumstances, we did not feel comfortable or safe sleeping there and therefore had to leave. When we contacted the owner about what had happened, we found their response dismissive and, in our experience, quite rude. We explained why we did not feel able to stay, but did not feel that our concerns were taken seriously or handled with understanding. We subsequently contacted Booking.com to request a refund. The property declined to provide one, and Booking.com ultimately offered only £8.56 towards a booking costing approximately £150. I am leaving this review so that future guests are aware of our experience and can make their own decision about whether this accommodation is suitable for them.
