Poorly maintained, poorly prepared and poorly managed.
One of the worst accommodation experiences I’ve had. We received no check-in instructions and only got the key information after check-in time. When we arrived, we were given two sets of keys with no explanation, and every door in the house was locked, including all the bedrooms. We spent around 30 minutes trying different keys to work out which opened which door.
The property was also poorly maintained and cleaned, with massive spider webs throughout the house and a dead cockroach inside.
We stayed in early August, yet there were no heaters downstairs. We could not access the advertised firewood because we were not given a key for downstairs, leaving us to carry the only heater we could find upstairs down the stairs and move it between the bedrooms.
The Wi-Fi did not work at all, despite multiple attempts to reset it and even trying an Ethernet connection. The host offered to arrange firewood and fix the Wi-Fi, but neither happened.
There was also an extensive list of cleaning instructions despite a cleaning fee being charged. More concerning, the metal bucket provided for fireplace ashes was already completely full when we arrived, suggesting the property had not been properly checked or prepared.
Communication with the host was extremely poor, with very delayed or unanswered messages. With the heating and Wi-Fi unresolved, we decided we could not stay. Despite driving several hours to get there, we packed up and drove 2.5 hours back to Auckland.
We then contacted the host multiple times regarding a refund and received no response, eventually having to contact Booking.com ourselves.
