Fleas
I liked that it was close to the beach and arcades. I loved the fact it had to bathrooms
When we arrived, the caravan was not particularly clean. I had to go to the local shop and buy antibacterial wipes to clean surfaces throughout the caravan. There were dog hairs, which I understand can happen in a dog-friendly caravan and were not my main concern.
Unfortunately, the biggest issue was that the caravan was infested with fleas. Myself, my children and our dog were all covered in flea bites. I even took a bowl from the cupboard and found a large dead flea inside it. We could physically see fleas crawling across the floor.
I contacted the owner, who was lovely, very apologetic and did everything she could to try to help once I made her aware of the problem. She explained that she had not thought to have the caravan treated for fleas because she advertises it as dog-friendly and as cats. I completely understand how this may have been overlooked, and I don't blame her personally for the situation, but unfortunately it had a huge impact on our holiday.
The owner asked me to go to the local shop to buy candles and washing-up liquid so we could try to trap the fleas while she arranged for someone to bring flea spray. I ended up spraying the entire caravan, including areas where we had been staying, and even had to spray my car because we had been putting our dirty laundry in there to save space.
The flea infestation completely ruined what was supposed to be a relaxing family holiday. Since returning home, I have had to leave some of our bedding behind and replace it, and I have had to use a launderette to wash all of our clothes and bedding on a 60°C wash to try to ensure any fleas or eggs were killed. This has caused additional expense, stress and inconvenience that we should never have had to deal with during a holiday.
The cleanliness and flea infestation were the only things that really let the caravan down, but unfortunately they had a huge impact on our stay.
