L’emplacement

Extremely disappointing experience, particularly regarding safety and the way the situation was handled. Only about 15 minutes after arriving at the apartment, I took a shower and then started the washing machine. When I closed the cupboard door where the washing machine is located, the entire heavy door came off and fell directly onto me. I was very lucky not to be seriously injured. What was particularly concerning was the condition of the fittings. Some screws appeared to have been installed without appropriate wall plugs, there were multiple fixing holes in some places, and there was already a visible mark on the opposite wall. This strongly suggested that the door had caused problems before. In our subsequent exchanges, we were told that there had indeed previously been an issue with this door and that it had supposedly been repaired before our arrival. Considering that it fell on me shortly after we checked in, the repair was clearly not adequate. However, what disappointed me almost as much as the safety issue itself was the initial response. Instead of simply apologising and showing concern after being informed that a heavy door had fallen onto a guest, the response focused on telling us that there was video footage from that day and the previous day. We were in Sydney on holiday. We did not come here to spend our time arguing about maintenance problems in an apartment we had paid to rent. A simple apology, some concern for my wellbeing and an immediate attempt to resolve the situation would have been the appropriate response. Regardless of who was responsible for the previous repair, guests should be able to expect that heavy fixtures and fittings in a rental property are safe and properly secured before check-in. This incident could have resulted in a serious injury and significantly affected our confidence in the safety of the accommodation.
