Homely

Central location was excellent. Beds were comfortable. Step stool to clamber onto the very high bed was much appreciated.

Felt a little like I was invading owners personal space. There were personal items and scrappy bits left in bedroom drawers. Unnecessary amount of plates, bowls, glasses, cups and saucepans in kitchen made me feel like cottage was a place for things the owners wanted to keep but didn't want in their own home. Provision of a clothes airer, or a dryer, would be good for wet days.

Not good.

It was close to everything you might want in Goolwa.

If your idea of ‘charming’ is a 1980’s craft market attended by cardigan-wearing grannies with blue-rinse hair-dos, then maybe this is the place for you. But only if you are prepared to put up with broken appliances and a very liberal interpretation of what the manager described as ‘professionally cleaned’. We were surprised and disappointed to find on our first night that bed linen and towels were not included. Both my partner and I, as well as his sister, read and re-read the listing on booking.com several times to make certain we were not suffering domestic blindness.. But no, there was absolutely no mention of guests needing to provide their own linen (incidentally, the listing on Stayz does state that linen is not included, but we only discovered that later when we were trying to confirm that we weren’t tripping). We hope that the listing details have changed in the meantime after we complained. However it should also be pointed out that upon our complaint, the manager was only willing to offer an apology and nothing more. Certainly no sheets, which if I were running such a property, I would have run down to complaining guests myself, simply as a gesture of good will. Surfaces were dusty, rubbish was found under furniture and both the vacuum cleaner and the air conditioner remote were malfunctioning. The bedside lamp didn’t work, the front bedroom smelled damp and the rear bedroom smelled of urine. This place was simply not up to scratch for over two hundred dollars a night. They also tried charing us twice, because for some reason they originally could not see that we had already paid through booking.com.
