About this apartment rental

A residence of particular historical charm located inside the tower built by Castruccio Castracani in Gattaiola at the end of the 13th century, adjacent to the monastery and the church of Sant'Andrea.
The accommodations are located inside the smaller tower, connected to the main tower by a small, covered inner courtyard, onto which the entrances to the two bedrooms and the bathroom open. The master bedroom is located on the mezzanine level of the small tower; on the first floor is a second bedroom with two bunk beds, where guests can enjoy breakfast.
The military-religious complex, one of the few remaining intact in Tuscany, is surrounded by a 97,000-square-meter park. An oasis of plant species and flora—including rare ones—in perfect harmony with seasonal wildlife such as roe deer, badgers, wild boars, hedgehogs, and—in particular—a wide variety of resident and migratory birds that, starting in March, bring the woods and the nearby valley of the Campaccio stream to life.

Podere Sant’Andrea is located four kilometers from the historic center—which can even be reached by bicycle! just a few minutes from the Lucca train station and thirty minutes from the Pisa airport.
However, it is situated in a natural oasis of great peace, absolute freedom, and serenity. It is surrounded by several gardens dedicated to fruit trees, camellias, and roses, as well as a charming and monumental bamboo grove. It is situated within a vast area crossed by the Campaccio stream; more than one-third of this area is devoted to olive groves, while the remainder is occupied by forests of acacia, oak, holm oak, chestnut trees, and many native and non-native plant species, as part of a landscaping project tied to the area’s historic botanical heritage.
The view of the sunset over the Apuan Alps and the sunrise over the garden are unforgettable sights.
It features private parking and outdoor areas equipped with a barbecue where guests can dine. By prior arrangement, guests can take guided walks in the surroundings of Gattaiola and the neighboring Lucca countryside, as well as in the Apuan Alps and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines of Garfagnana. Two old but functional bicycles are always available free of charge to guests, and the public shuttle stop is located 500 meters away, though it runs only a few times a day. Nearby, you can purchase pecorino cheese and vegetables directly from local producers.

If you truly want to experience Lucca, don't just visit it... live it. Staying in Pat's extraordinary historic home was one of the highlights of our entire trip. There is something incredibly special about sleeping in a house that has stood for centuries. It feels like you're becoming a tiny part of its story. Every room is beautifully decorated with love and character, blending history with comfort in the most wonderful way. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the peaceful surroundings made every night's sleep absolutely perfect. Pat was the kind of host every traveler hopes to meet: warm, welcoming, fun to spend time with, and always available with great communication and helpful recommendations. From the moment we arrived, we felt like honored guests rather than visitors. The property itself is magical. Surrounded by history, nature, and tranquility, it offers a side of Lucca that hotels simply cannot. Waking up each morning in such an authentic setting made us appreciate the city on a much deeper level. For us, this wasn't just accommodation. It was an experience. If you want to fall in love with Lucca, this is the way to do it. We would return in a heartbeat and cannot thank Pat enough for making our stay so unforgettable.
