Built in the early 1900s in authentic Capri Mediterranean style, with cross vaults, round arches, and open porticos, the villa—thanks to philosopher Croce’s residence there—became a gathering place for artists, intellectuals, painters, writers, and poets of the early 20th century. In this corner of Anacapri, many chose to make it their exclusive retreat—including Mario Soldati, Alberto Moravia, and, in particular, the famous British writer Graham Greene, who used it as a place of seclusion to create his world-renowned literary works.
