Great location, loads of potential but fails to deliver
The apartment’s location is excellent, with an easy walk into Kalk Bay and a scenic walk to Fish Hoek Beach. The view from the front living area is truly beautiful.
The photos online are very misleading and do not reflect the current condition of the apartment. There is a serious issue with damp throughout, with a strong musty smell that is quite off-putting.
There is also a lack of privacy and security. In the second bedroom, you can see directly into a neighbouring home, with no curtains or window coverings, unlike the front living area. Both front bedrooms feel unfinished – there are exposed wires around a window lamp that is not even plugged in.
The bathroom setup is unusual and impractical. The toilet and bath are open-plan with no basin near the toilet, which feels like a basic hygiene oversight. There is also no proper tiling around the bath, and fixtures appear incomplete.
The separate shower room felt poorly maintained – mops and brooms were left against the basin, and the floor remained constantly wet, possibly due to poor sealing. This made it uncomfortable, especially at night.
The back room had very little ventilation and a strong damp, mouldy smell, making it unsuitable as a sleeping space.
The kitchen/living area has potential, but again suffers from damp and feels neglected. There were cleaning buckets and cloths left out, a WiFi box on the floor, and even a loose step, all contributing to an unfinished and unwelcoming feel.
While the host did mention that the TV was not working, this was the least of the issues.
Overall, it felt like the property was rushed into being rented without meeting basic standards. With significant work, it could become a great place to stay, but in its current condition, it is not somewhere I would recommend, and certainly not worth the price charged.
