About this cottage rental
Spacious coastal cottage with great character and no neighbours. Abbotsway is very private, with its own secluded and fully-enclosed courtyard and a pretty garden with sturdy wooden furniture and a barbecue. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, Wi-Fi, wood burner and its own games room. Historic harbour town of Kirkcudbright 9 miles, bustling market town of Castle Douglas 12 miles.
Abbotsway is a traditional stone-built cottage at the head of a wooded valley on Orroland Estate which rolls from the hills all the way down to the shore. Housing a loch, wildflower meadow, sculptured gardens, towering woodlands and unspoilt grassy fields; Orroland has all the best of its surrounding beauty in one place. During a stay here, it will feel like you are only sharing the views with the local wildlife and most of the time, you are.
The first thing you'll notice is the space. With roomy accommodation in two separate wings the house is ideal for families with children or for two couples sharing. Abbotsway comfortably houses 5 guests in a double, single and twin room. The twin bedroom can also be converted to a super-king bed. There is a shower room and a bathroom, one in each wing.
A modern kitchen/diner in keeping with the traditional styling of the house is adjacent to a spacious sitting room with cosy wood burner and large bay window ideal for watching wildlife.
An excellent games room provides table tennis, pool table and smart TV. You can enjoy free super-fast fibre wifi throughout the property.
The accommodation is all on ground level with occasional steps. It is a pleasant walk (or drive) from the cottage to Orroland's private landscaped loch and picnic pavilion. You can also walk (or drive part of the way) to Orroland Bay, an attractive beach with pebbles and large flat rocks ideal for making a base on and lots of rock pools to explore.
Extensive parking at the cottage with a dedicated EV charger with no additional charges.

The cottage and grounds are wonderful. The cottage was clean and spacious with everything we needed. The grounds are peaceful and beautiful. Lots of lovely walks.

The house was probably the cleanest of any we have stayed in, with fantasic provision for dogs, both in the house and by way of location and surroundings. The estate was beautifully kept with abundant wildlife, including the elusive red squirrels.
It was not the cheapest by any means, but you get what you pay for with great quality fixtures & fittings, furnishings etc.
We had appauling weather, but it didn't dampen our stay and the games room came it to its own.
The only gripe was the pillows, which were very soft, but pillows are such a personal thing that it would be impossible to please everyone.

We felt at home the moment we walked in Abbotsway. It was comfortable and cosy with everything you could need for a great stay. Everything was super clean and tidy. The grounds were so well tended and the walk through the gardens to the shoreline a real treat with red squirrels, hares, deer and birdlife around. Location was great and good information provided for exploring the area with coastline and forests nearby.
