Summary:

Three bedrooms and one bathroom for up to seven guests: a king room, a twin room, a single room and a sofa bed for two in the living room. The house has a large kitchen-diner with a breakfast bar, a conservatory, a compact enclosed garden with a patio, a workspace and a washer and dryer. There's a driveway and free street parking, and Southampton General Hospital is about 9 minutes by car, handy for visiting family.



The Space:

Sleeping

UK bed sizes: a king is similar to a US queen, and a single to a US twin.

King room: king-size bed.

Twin room: two single beds.

Single room: one single bed.

Lounge: sofa bed for two.

All the bedrooms are on the first floor. Bed linen, extra pillows and blankets are provided.



Bathroom

One family bathroom with both a bathtub and a shower. Towels for each guest, a hair dryer and shampoo are included.



Kitchen and dining

A generous kitchen-diner with a breakfast bar, oven, microwave, dishwasher and toaster, plus cookware, plates and cutlery for the whole group.



Living room and conservatory

A lounge with a TV, and a conservatory with extra seating and lots of daylight.



Outside

A small, sunny, enclosed back garden with a patio.



Everyday practicals

Wi-Fi and a workspace, a washer and a dryer, an iron, hangers, heating with a hallway thermostat, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. Many guests stay a week or more for work or family reasons, and the house is set up for it.



Travelling with children

Children and babies are welcome. There are children's books, toys and dinnerware, and the enclosed garden is a safe space to play. There is no cot or high chair, so please bring a travel cot if you need one.



Bringing your dog

Up to three dogs are welcome, and a pet fee applies.



Good to know

There is one bathroom for up to seven guests. It's a lively residential area, so some city noise is normal, and quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am. The house has a name, not a number; your check-in details include its exact location.



Guest Access:

Guests have the whole house and garden. Self check-in by lockbox from 4 pm to 9 pm, check-out by 10 am. The driveway is narrow and steep; street parking is free, and we can lend a permit for the road if you ask in advance.



The Neighborhood:

Melrose is in a residential area near Portswood, north of Southampton city centre. Walking times: Bevois Valley Road shops 6 minutes, St Denys station 10, Portswood 14, Bedford Place 17 and Southampton Common 21. By car: Town Quay 6 minutes, Ocean Village and the cruise terminals 7 to 8, Southampton General Hospital 9 and the New Forest at Lyndhurst 23. Southampton Common has woods, lakes and play areas for families.



Getting Around:

St Denys station is about 10 minutes on foot, and buses from Portswood run into the city. Southampton Central is about 30 minutes' walk, and the M3 and M27 are around 10 minutes by car.

ID check and deposit: after booking, the lead guest completes a short ID check and deposit step with our partner SafeGuest. You choose either a Damage Deposit of £350 (your card is saved and nothing is taken up front; it can only be charged for a claim SafeGuest approves after check-out) or SafeGuest's No Deposit fee of £40 (a one-off fee paid to SafeGuest). Interaction with Guests:

Our local Blue Puffin Stays team looks after Melrose and answers Vrbo messages every day from 8 am to 8 pm, with help on arrival until 9 pm. If you'd like the road permit for a second car, just ask before you travel. For a genuine emergency, use the number in your check-in details at any time.
