A disappointing stay from start to finish: unclean, unsafe, and poorly handled by the host.
The property looked beautiful and luxurious in the listing photos, and the pictures definitely gave the impression of a high-end, comfortable stay.
Unfortunately, our stay was very disappointing. When we arrived, the home was not properly cleaned or prepared for guests. We spent the first three hours of our stay cleaning. The front door was caked with leaves and moss, cushions were scattered across the floor, the floors throughout the home were dirty, and the bathroom mats were dirty and wet. The entire property looked as though someone had just left rather than it being prepared for our arrival.
There was also a serious safety concern. The curtain rod was barely attached and, within less than five minutes of arriving, it came extremely close to falling on my son. We immediately contacted the host, and his response was simply to put the rod and curtain away. We did not feel this was an appropriate response to a safety hazard involving a child.
We also had an unexpected issue with stray dogs around the property. The first night, we noticed one stray dog. By the second day, there were approximately six stray dogs around the property. We contacted the host because we were concerned about the safety of our family and our own dogs. Instead of addressing the situation, the host blamed us for the stray dogs being there because we had brought our two ESA dogs. We found this response extremely disappointing, especially since the number of stray dogs increased significantly during our stay.
The exterior cameras were another concern. We understand having security cameras outside, but the camera appeared to follow us around the property. When we set up a kiddie pool, the camera followed our children while they were outside, which made us extremely uncomfortable.
We contacted the host about all of these issues and requested reasonable compensation, providing pictures as proof. Unfortunately, once we sent the pictures, the host never responded.
