Style over Substance: A used condom, a disconnected smoke alarm, cigarette smoke and unclean cutlery
The decoration and photos on the wall.
The bathroom - at least the bathroom did not smell of smoke, and there were no USED CONDOMs there!
To look at the photos of Borghi Station House you could be led to believe that the place where you will be staying is fit for a
film star. But beneath the photos are a host of problems to be aware of. Read on to get a full picture of what you will find when you arrive at this property.
We arrived for a 2-night stay paying €230 a night. Once in we were met with a very strong smell of cigarette smoke. The smell was so strong we wondered if the smoke alarm will have been set off, but THE SMOKE ALARM HAD BEEN DISCONNECTED and left on the side.
With all the windows open to ventilate, we prepared dinner, only to find that there were only 2 forks (2 of us had fun trying to eat with a knife and spoon) and SOME OF THE CUTLERY WAS DIRTY AND HAD CLEARLY NOT BEEN WASHED.
Surely there would be no more surprises, until I went into what would be our children’s room and found a USED CONDOM, clearly a potential INFECTION RISK. Our boys are older teens so would have managed the situation well but IMAGINE IF IT WERE YOUR YOUNGER CHILD WHO FOUND IT AND CAME RUNNING UP TO YOU WAVING AROUND SOMEONE ELSE’S CONDOM.
It was abundantly clear that we have an agent who has so little regard for their clients’ welfare and safety that they are happy to rent out a property where BASIC FIRE SAFETY PROCEDURES, CLEANLINESS, and POSSIBLE INFECTION CONTROL ARE IGNORED.
We did contact the host through Booking.com (on the day of arrival) but heard nothing until, ironically, the automated message asking for a good review appeared once we had left. The first response following our messages came 5 days after the issues had been reported. As a courtesy I sent them the photos I took on the day and a copy of this (shortened) review (to meet Booking.com size requirements). They did make us an offer of a partial refund on the 24th July, but that has not been fulfilled, nor have we heard anything from them since.
You might be happy to take a risk, and hope that the host has learnt from this experience, I hope they have learnt from this too, but their lack of communication does not fill me with much hope. Therefore, I cannot recommend that you book ANY property linked to this agent - yours and your family’s safety and wellbeing are worth more than some nice decoration.
