A beautiful location overshadowed by significant cleanliness, privacy, and maintenance issues.
The location was excellent. The property is in a prime area with a beautiful lake/pond view right in front of the house, which made for a very relaxing setting. It is only about a 6-minute drive to the beach and conveniently located near CVS, Walgreens, restaurants, and a grocery store approximately 17 minutes away. The property itself has great potential and is well situated for a beach vacation.
The apartment was not properly cleaned before our arrival. The floors were unswept, there was dog hair throughout the unit, and we found hair and food particles in the beds. The toaster was rusted, and the coffee maker had visible rust buildup. Although replacements were eventually provided, they were not available for the first part of our stay.
The ground-floor bedroom blinds did not close completely, leaving the room visible from outside and providing little privacy. We reported the issue immediately, but the proposed solution was simply to use a curtain, so we had to hang a bedsheet over the window ourselves.
After reporting the condition of the apartment, a cleaning crew was sent, but the unit was still not clean afterward. Unfortunately, post cleaning, there were new sheets and pillowcases, but the bedroom lamps, counter/display tops remained dusty.
The most concerning issue was that my mother, who was celebrating her birthday, discovered three ticks attached to her hair during our stay. Given the amount of dog hair throughout the apartment, we were concerned they may have originated from the homeowner's dog, and we notified the rental company so the homeowner could investigate. My mother now has to monitor for signs of Lyme disease, turning what should have been a relaxing birthday trip into an ongoing health concern.
Overall, the property appeared to lack the level of cleaning, inspection, and maintenance we expected, and the issues we reported were not resolved satisfactorily during our stay. I can't recommend this property until these issues are seriously addressed. The place has so much potential if the vacation rental company could just make sure its cleaned between guests.
