We stayed here while attending my uncle’s funeral. The pub and hotel were excellent, but what truly elevated our experience was the staff. Having worked in hospitality for many years, I know how much of a difference good service can make, though I’m still sometimes surprised by just how much it can mean. We were visiting during an incredibly sad and difficult time, and the genuine kindness, thoughtfulness and humanity shown to our whole party made a real difference. It helped lift an otherwise heartbreaking occasion and for that, we are hugely grateful. It wasn’t about grand gestures, but the little things. The thoughtful words, the small acts of kindness and the willingness to help both my immediate family staying at the hotel and our wider family who joined us for a meal. Those seemingly small moments meant more than the staff could probably have realised. One member of staff, in particular, looked after us during lunch, dinner and breakfast. She was an absolute credit to the hotel, but more importantly, to herself. Her warmth and compassion left a lasting impression, and I have no doubt she will go on to make a positive difference to many people, both through her work and beyond. A huge thank you to everyone for making a very difficult time just that little bit easier. It was a reminder that, while the quality of a hotel or pub matters it’s the people who can make an experience truly memorable. Oh, and also, the pie was superb!

The breakfast was substantial. We had the salmon variation on eggs benedict which was very good but found the salmon very strong. We had dinner with a friend who lives in Addingham. He liked his dinner very much and was going to bring a visitor the next week. We had the Heiffer pie which was very tasty with succulent meat and he had a neat variation on cottage pie. Parking was well marked out and was apparently monitored with fines for inappropriate parking.

My partner didn't rate the orange juice and said it tasted as if it was out of a carton. She had to ask for another piece of toast. Coffee was brought in a cup at the start of breakfast. The two flat whites were tepid and not very tasty. We stayed in the Heathcliffe room which was bijou but well appointed however the opening into the shower was very narrow. My partner and I are both slim but found getting into and especially getting out of it was not easy.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The outside area is nice for a drink in the sunshine.

The room was tired in need of renovation and the food in our opinion wasn’t great.
