We never got the code to enter the apartment!!

Nothing positive to write about since we never got the code and could therefore not enter the apartment!

We could not make the required "bank imprint" (deposit) of 650€ because for some reason the deposit interface (Swikly.com) used by the host did not allow the payment to go through. We made 4 attempts both from a laptop and a smartphone with a valid Visa card issued by a French bank and notified the host well ahead of our arrival that we struggled with this procedure. On the night of our arrival, the host kept on asking us the make the deposit but he did not care about the fact that we received error messages form the Swikly.com platform each time we tried to pay the deposit. We even sent the host a copy of the e-mail confirmation of the last failed payment, but he kept silent about the problem and did not seem to care. In the end we were stuck outside the door to the apartment at 21:00 on a cold December night (the 25th of December!!) with our three children because the host refused to give us the code to enter the apartment and equally refused to refund us for this non-refundable reservation. We had to call Booking.com several time that evening to try to solve the issue with the host but he still failed to cooperate with Booking.com and with us. He also would not answer his mobile phone to anyone (including Booking.com staff) to help solve the issue. Booking.com eventually agreed to force cancel the reservation so we could check into another hotel nearby on our own. The Booking.com hotline staff was very helpful but they could not force the host to open the door, they could only arrange a full refund for this theoretically non-refundable reservation.
