Staying with Thisara and his family was an unforgettable experience in the middle of a beautiful traditional Sri Lankan farm!
Thisara and his family are incredibly kind, caring, and welcoming hosts. Thisara took so much time to show me around Sigiriya, share his local knowledge, and make sure I experienced as much as possible during my stay. He and his family genuinely cared about every little wish and always made sure I felt comfortable and welcome.
The food was absolutely delicious, and the accommodation itself is truly unique. This is not your typical tourist accommodation – it’s a place where you can experience the real Sri Lanka, connect with nature, and get a genuine insight into local life and culture. You definitely need to love and appreciate nature to fully enjoy this special place, but if you do, you’re in for something amazing!
A huge thank you to Thisara and his family for their kindness, hospitality, and all the wonderful memories!
I couldn’t recommend this place more. 100/10 stars!

Quedarse en una casa del árbol en medio de tanta vegetación fue una gran experiencia, pero sin duda alguna lo mejor de todo fue la amabilidad y hospitalidad de sus dueños!

Towels and a hairdryer were provided, which was a plus.
The owner very kindly to get up early at 4AM and offered to drop me to both Pidurangala & Sigiria Rocks, which I'm truly appreciative of!
The food was genuinely good, credit to the owner’s wife. Both breakfast and dinner were tasty. However, the dining area itself could benefit from better maintenance and cleanliness.
Be aware that the property is very remote, with very poor signal and a significant amount of insects. While this might suit some travellers, it adds to the overall inconvenience.
Overall: unique concept, but poor management, lack of transparency, and serious safety concerns. Not recommended, especially for solo female travellers.
The property itself is okay. It is indeed a treehouse, which is quite a unique concept. However, access to the room requires climbing steep steps. Manageable, but not ideal with luggage (I had a backpack, which was okay). The room setup included one single bed (without a mosquito net) and one queen bed (with a net). Overall, the space felt basic, not very clean, and not particularly comfortable.
The bathroom is located down another set of stairs — an interesting idea, but ultimately quite inconvenient. Cleanliness was inconsistent, and there were times when there was no water from the shower. When I raised this issue, the owner dismissed it by saying, “this is Sri Lanka,” okay, but felt unprofessional.
Pricing lacked transparency. It was not clearly communicated that dinners and transport were excluded. Instead, these were pushed as add-ons during the stay. (The owner also borrowed money from me for his petrol, weird but okay - I respected that there is an energy crisis going on, but he never paid me back.)
The owner repeatedly tried to upsell additional services (boat trip, massage, etc.). I agreed to the boat experience, but it was poorly timed. I was exposed to intense sun the entire time. The boat itself was very basic, and I was pressured into wearing props like a lotus necklace and hat, which felt uncomfortable. There was also a payment issue: I was initially told there was no change to encourage overpayment, which felt dishonest.
On another occasion, the owner offered to take me to Sigiriya. Instead of using a motorbike, he used a jeep and later charged me 2000 LKR without clearly informing me beforehand. A tuk-tuk would have been significantly cheaper.
Most concerning was the owner’s behaviour. Throughout my stay, there were several instances that felt inappropriate and uncomfortable. Comments about my body and unnecessary physical proximity during rides made the experience feel unsafe. As a solo female traveller, I would not recommend this place.
