Extemely disappointing experience and poor handling of a bed bug issue I had to resolve myself
Xuru stays initially provided the wrong address via Google Maps. I arrived at the wrong location around 6:00 PM. The actual accommodation was on the other side of El Gouna, requiring another 30+ minutes of travel. When the security guard at the wrong compound found me he talked to Xuru customer service and arranged me another transport as it takes hours to get a taxi out to Ancient Hills which is on the outskirts of El Gouna. The right address was at G-cribs on the other side of town and also at the outskirts of El Gouna. Mind you this is the Sahel so very hot with no place for shelter or bar or restaurant to sit at at this remote location. Even worse, I had to walk about 1 km to a tuk-tuk pick-up point and then wait roughly an hour for a tuk-tuk. I only reached the accommodation around 8:00–9:00 PM. I then had to contact customer service repeatedly because the driver wanted payment for the additional journey caused by Xuru because of the incorrect address. I refused to pay the tuktuk because customer service said they were going to handle it and why was it my problem when they made the mistake. You can only reach customer service by phone or whapp but you have to wait really long go through a menu selection and they put you on hold. So it is very inefficient to have issues resolved quickly usually it takes them hours or half a day to reply or they simply ignore your messages. At around 2:30 AM, I discovered a live bed bug in my room and immediately reported it to both the property and Booking.com. To go through the whole procedure it took me more than 3 hours of waiting and talking to booking.com Despite this serious health and safety issue, I received absolutely no practical support from Xuru stays until around 4:00 PM. I was repeatedly told to wait, while I had to solve everything myself.
I had been awake all night and, because the accommodation is in a very remote part of El Gouna surrounded by desert, there are no shops, restaurants or bars nearby. You depend entirely on taxis or tuk-tuks, which are extremely difficult to find and can take hours to arrive. I could barely arrange food and drinks and only managed to eat around 11:00 PM–midnight. The whole situation was exhausting and I did not get any night’s sleep. At 6:00 AM, I had to arrange another hotel myself for €190, as it was the only realistic option with 24/7 reception that answered the phone. I had only used around 12 hours of my original booking, yet I am expected to cover most of this emergency accommodation myself. Xuru stays finally offered alternative accommodation around 4:00 PM — 13 hours after my initial report. By then, I had already had to resolve the situation completely on my own. Throughout the process, I received many promises that Xuru stays would help and compensate me, but no actual support was provided when I urgently needed it. They even tried to put the tuktuk fee on my expense. I was eventually told by booking.com I would receive around €30 compensation, but more than a week later, I still haven’t received it. The €190 I had to spend on emergency accommodation is also not being reimbursed. In short: a serious health and safety issue, no support for approximately 14 hours, having to arrange everything myself, an extremely difficult and remote location, an incorrect address, hours of transport problems, repeated calls to customer service, and many promises without results. Do not stay with Xuru stays and I will never book through Booking.com again because both Xuru stays and booking.com takes them hours to resolve an emergency but will not even compensate what you are rightfully owned. Xuru stays tries to provide a service but they are not qualified to run a hospitality service. After hours and countless messages nothing was resolved see messages in screenshots.
