This apartment is located in a very quiet residential area, yet close to the bustling city center. There is so much to see and discover in Plauen and the surrounding area that TV nights may become unnecessary. A truly impressive vacation experience awaits you—a trip back in time, almost like in the days of the GDR. For many visitors to Plauen, this is exactly what they’re longing for: a touch of that GDR atmosphere, far removed from the era of German reunification. Equally unusual are the street and house numbering systems within the same residential area, right down to the parking space allocations for each residential complex—which seem inexplicable by today’s standards. All in all, it feels a bit “set back” in time but is charming: typical (N) Ostalgie
Hidden gem restaurant: The Vogtland Clinic is within walking distance—5 to 10 minutes at most (500 meters). There’s a cafeteria with a restaurant there that offers healthy, fresh, delicious, and—above all—affordable meals for all visitors
You can find more information online, including opening hours, menu options, and prices, etc.
This cafeteria is also a great place to meet up—and when the weather is nice, you can sit outside on the large sun terrace.

Plauen is easily accessible by train from nearly all directions and is also known as the Vogtland Tri-State Area.
With well over 60,000 residents, Plauen is the fifth-largest city in the Free State of Saxony and is located in the “Three-State Corner” between Saxony, Thuringia, and Bavaria. The city is a little paradise nestled amid emerald-green forests, gently curving along the slopes of a hill and nestled in the heart of the White Elster Valley. In the heart of the historic city center, the family-friendly youth hostel is located in a former fire station, where the interior’s color scheme—among other features—evokes the building’s history.
In addition to the natural splendor of the surroundings, the architectural splendor adds to the unique beauty of the landscape. The fusion of various architectural styles can be experienced particularly well at Plauen’s town hall and its many churches. There is also much to discover in the area surrounding Plauen: the “Vogtland Sea,” better known as the Pöhl Dam, invites visitors to swim, sail, and surf.
Plauen offers the following for water lovers: Plauen Swimming School, Plauen City Pool, Plauen Indoor Pool, Haselbrunn Outdoor Pool, and Preisßelpöhl Outdoor Pool, Aqua-City/Vogtland Diving Tower.
There are plenty of places to shop here: Stadt Galerie Plauen and Elserpark, to name just the two largest shopping centers.

In addition, the dam is one of the most fish-rich bodies of water in Saxony. During the summer months, there’s plenty of fun to be had at Plohn Amusement Park and on the summer toboggan run in Mühleiten. A very popular destination is the Ski and Bike World in Schöneck. The same goes for the water parks and sauna complexes in Eibensock and Schöneck.
Winter sports enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy throughout the Vogtland-Czech border region. Countless kilometers of cross-country ski trails have been groomed through the forests of the Vogtland, and the lifts on the various slopes look forward to your visit.
