An unsafe and poorly maintained unit
Not too far from the beach, some sea views
accom comfortable & fairly clean although maintenance at the property needs attention
Fair value for money had the unit been safe & well maintained
Beach gate - The walk from the apartment down to the beach gate is excessively steep (involves >100 steps), and is about 5-10min walk
Multiple items missing from inventory reported
MASSIVE electrical fault in unit which caused the electricty to trip everytime a heating element (stove, kettle etc) was used. Light bulbs also fused & note on DV board and air con plug in main bedroom regarding frequency of power tripping indicates that these problems existed prior to arrival and for an extended period of time. lights & fans in 2nd & 3rd bedrooms faulty. Air con in main bedroom came on initially but did not blow out any air.
On Satiurday evening of our stay, we smelt someting burning but dismissed it thinking someone was braaing after rugby. On Sunday evening we noticed a massive explosion outside the unit and the lights tripped. Observed burnt out external wire connected to the main bedroom aircon. Electrical fire observed which only stopped smoldering when we switched off that air con plug. Inadquate insulation and diameter of air con external wiring noted. Contacted Prop247 agent on Sunday night who advised to switch off plug and electrician would be sent out in morning.
Confirmed with neighbouring units that no global power failure was present at the time and electricity problem was isolated to our unit
On Monday morning, when switching on the kettle, multiple globes burst and exploded. kettle noted NOT to be on earth leakage circuit as it did not trip despite earth leakage being off.
Electrician called out on Monday who rectified the concerns
Although Prop247 did come out to attend to the problem and fix the issue, it is completely unacceptable to have these problems in the first place and clearly the unit was not adequately maintained and inspected prior to us moving in. A thorough check should include checking all inventory items as well as testing electrical equipment (incl fans, air cons etc)
