We left within an hour and never spent the night.
Unfortunately, the property was not as portrayed in the listing. Most concerning was a very strong, unpleasant odor throughout the house, noticeable immediately and significant enough that we were unwilling to spend the night. We also found stained bed linens and towels in multiple bedrooms, an extremely dirty AC vent, dirty outdoor furniture and poorly maintained outdoor areas. The yard looked significantly different from the clean, landscaped setting advertised.
We arrived fully intending to stay, but after a couple of hours trying to resolve the issues with the host and Booking.com, we put our bags back in the car and had to find alternative accommodations on a holiday weekend. Instead of enjoying the first evening of our getaway, we spent it searching for somewhere else to sleep. We never spent a night in the house.
The response was equally disappointing. We reported everything immediately and provided photographs. The cleaner acknowledged the sheets and towels were stained but insisted they were clean and actually suggested I smell them. Paying guests should not have to smell visibly stained linens to determine whether they are clean. If they're permanently stained, replace them. This is hospitality 101.
Despite our photographic evidence, the owner denied there were issues and refused a refund. We later provided comparisons between the listing photos and the property we actually encountered. More troublingly, when we documented the difference and chose not to spend even one night there, the response was not to make it right, but to deny the problem and retain our full payment.
If you're considering this property, look carefully at recent reviews and guest photos. Problems happen; how an owner responds says a great deal about the hospitality being offered.
