Everything was very clean and ready for guests. The property is gorgeous, the backyard perfect for relaxing and entertaining. Crissy was a wonderful host, very communicative and helpful.

Lovely historic neighborhood within walking distance to the river. Close to Macalester campus. Nice restaurants and smaller retail shops within a couple of miles. House and grounds are beautiful. Host was really available for questions.

What worked - the house is a lovely old mansion in a great area. The gathering areas were large and comfortable. The kitchen has very high-end appliances, although no microwave. This meant that snacking on left-overs from dinners out necessitated use of the oven or stove. There was a small counter-top oven.
What didn't work - the top-floor bedroom and bathroom were so cold that they were unusable, even after we asked the owner if we could turn the heat up. So that meant we really only had 2 showers for 6 people. While we understand that this is the owner's primary residence, there was so much of her personal stuff everywhere it was uncomfortable. The room that was an homage to her son's athletic career left no room to hang any of our things, or set a cup on the bedside tables. The refrigerator had her food in it with instructions not to eat it. It was just kind of weird. We are a respectful group, but we felt like we were intruding.
Overall, the owner was very nice and accommodating, but there is a big difference between letting people stay in your house, and renting it out as a VRBO.
