This is such a sweet little gem in Hakuba, I highly recommend for solo travelers! (I’m sure it would also be lovely traveling with a friend or as a couple! I’m just speaking from my own personal experience as a solo female traveler). The lodge is run by a sweet elderly couple and their lovely daughter Maki, who speaks perfect English which makes communication super seamless. I was a bit nervous to travel on my own, but they were so sweet and welcoming - it felt less like I was staying at a hotel and more like I was staying at a relative’s house! The lodge is very close to the Sakka lift on the Happo-one mountain, and is about a 5 minute walk to some nearby restaurants and about a 25 minute walk or 5 minute drive down to the main stretch of restaurants/bars/convenience stores etc. (it’s actually quite easy to get an uber/taxi in Hakuba). The location keeps it close enough to everything but tucked away just enough to have a bit of distance from downtown where sometimes it can get quite rowdy. The lodge’s distance from the bars and the rules they set in place keep the vibe very peaceful, and also made me feel very safe! I will always remember coming downstairs to a beautifully prepared, delicious breakfast with soft jazz playing in the background, watching the snow fall softly outside the stained-glass windows, and chit-chatting with Maki, asking her silly questions like, “what should I say back to someone if they say dozo on the lift?” What a lovely way to end this year’s ski season ❤️

Staying at this hotel was an absolute highlight of my time in Hakuba. Its location is incredibly convenient, just a short walk from the slopes, which made early mornings and quick breaks during the day effortless. What truly sets this place apart is the hospitality. The owner family has been running the property for more than 45 years, and you can genuinely feel the care, warmth, and experience that comes with that legacy. They treat guests not just as visitors, but as part of their home, always ready to help with a smile and thoughtful advice. The hotel itself has a unique antique Western style that you rarely find nowadays. It feels like stepping back in time, with a charm and character that modern hotels simply cannot replicate. Knowing that this was one of the very first hotels in Hakuba adds even more meaning to the stay. If you’re looking for a place with history, personality, and heartfelt hospitality right by the slopes, this hotel is truly special.
