The location was fantastic, right in the heart of Calgary, with amazing views from the apartment. There were plenty of cafes, restaurants and food options within easy walking distance, which made exploring the city really convenient. Although parking wasn’t included with our booking, we found plenty of paid parking nearby without too much trouble.
Our stay in Calgary was a little disappointing overall. We didn’t receive any automatic check-in instructions, which was quite stressful when arriving at an apartment in the middle of the city. I had to search back through my emails to find the owner’s phone number and call him directly. Thankfully, he answered promptly and sent the access details through, so we were able to get in.
Unfortunately, one of the lifts was out of order, resulting in waits of over 15 minutes to get up to the apartment. This happened throughout our stay whenever we needed to use the elevator. We appreciate that this was outside the host’s control, but it was still frustrating.
Inside the apartment, the fold-out couch had a noticeable burn mark, and no sheets were provided for it. Our daughter had to make do with two blankets from the wardrobe, which left us questioning whether the bedding was clean and suitable for use. There was also a pair of old, worn slippers left beside the couch. The shower head was discoloured brown and didn’t spray properly, which also detracted from the experience.
With clearer check-in communication and better attention to cleanliness, bedding and maintenance, the stay could have been much better. Unfortunately, these issues meant the accommodation didn’t meet our expectations.
