Very comfortable and conveniently located.

The apartment is spotlessly clean and conveniently located for visiting with our daughter and son-in-law. The house is located near the end of the street and very little traffic comes through this area. The heating and cooling system are very effective and kept us comfortable at all times. In addition, everything is in this studio apartment that people need for a comfortable stay.

There is a raise in the floor of about one and a half to 2 inches at the bathroom entry. It is a tripping hazard.

Beautiful, quiet place but needs work to make it comfortable.

Expecations My wife and I wanted to take a short vacation to Phoenix. She wanted to see some museums and gardens, as well as do some hiking. I wanted a comfortable place to stay to kick back relax, read and watch YouTube videos on my iPad. We wanted something better than a hotel room, having comfortable place for both of us to sit, but not as extravagent and expenise as a resort. The house at the Phoenix Mountain Retreat was beautiful, both inside and out. The remodeling and conversion of the garage to a living space was well done. The subdivision it was in was very quiet. Grade A+ for the beauty and quietness.

Reality We are used to sleeping on a mattress with springs and a soft top. The worst sleeping I have ever had was on the foam mattress on the bed. My back hurt for the first two nights. It was hard to get to sleep. By the end of our trip, I was so tired from sleeping on the foam mattress, I finally got some sleep. Grade F on the bed. We spent time in there in the evenings. The sofa reminded me of a 1950’s style sofa. The sofa was very uncomfortable. We used pillows to prop us up to get comfortable. Grade F on the sofa. The kitchen was beautiful. Grade A on the beauty of the kitchen. The counter space was limited by the microwave. If we wanted to prepare dinner from scratch, it would have been difficult. Grade D on the counter space. The bathroom was excellent. Grade A+ on the bathroom. The dispenser containing shampoo, body wash and conditioner was nice to have. But, the shampoo and body wash was like water with a few drops of soap mixed in. Grade D- on the contents of the dispenser. The keypad door entry lock did not work properly. We used the keys each day to enter and leave. I finally got the keypad lock to open, but it would not lock. Grade D- on entry. I now have a better sense to ask more questions about short term rentals, like type of mattress, quality of chairs and sofas, kitchen, etc.
