Staying at Santa Maria Volcano Lodge was one of the warmest and most memorable experiences of my trip. From the start, it felt like staying with extended family rather than at a lodge—the owner and staff were incredibly kind and attentive. On my first night I arrived very late, and they still kept my dinner ready, reheated it, and served it with such care that it set a wonderful tone for the rest of my stay.
The lodge is very clean and well maintained, and my cottage was comfortably sized and cozy. The food was excellent for both breakfast and dinner whenever I ate there. The property is set in lush rainforest, with beautiful greenery and many kinds of birds visible right around the cottage, which made each morning special.
The lodge is within a reasonable driving distance to nearby facilities and attractions. The last stretch of road—about six to seven miles—is a bit bumpy, but with a decent car it is manageable and absolutely worth it for the peaceful, natural setting and exceptional hospitality. Overall, I had an awesome stay and would highly recommend Santa Maria Volcano Lodge to anyone who wants to enjoy nature and truly heartfelt hospitality.

We loved our stay here. We saw others who regretted not staying more than one night so we booked 2. It was my kids favorite place of the whole vacation. Next time we will stay even longer. We did the horse riding and also had a farm experience one day. The meals were delicious and the wildlife was stunning. Excellent hosts and staff! Thank you!

Lovely location, just don't take the back road that sends you driving through a creek! Staff and property were lovely, helpful, beautiful. The best food we had our entire stay in Costa Rica! Would recommend to anyone!
