I stayed here for 1 week. At first I was unsure how it would turn out. You live together in the house with a family. To anticipate it: The hosts are very well organized in hosting guests.
I had a very nice private room and my own super bathroom, across the hallway. There is a kitchen shared with other guests, which can also be used properly for cooking. Coffee and tea are available for free. Since it is a residential building, there are some self-evident rules to follow: quiet times at night, not taking strangers into the room unannounced, order and cleanliness. Just behave the way you want your guests to behave at home!
But seriously: Who wants to cook for themselves when there are tons of restaurants, snack bars and delivery services available? You can order delicious food from $10. I've eaten halfway around the world, which you can probably only find here in NYC.
In 8 minutes walk is the Rockaway Parkway. Along the entire street are hundreds of small and large shops for all kinds of things and restaurants, some with cheap ATMs (e.g. $1.95 per withdrawal). At Carnasie Pier there is a very nicely made rest area with benches and toilets, which invites you to rest. Everything is within walking distance. I walked a lot to get direct contact with the residents. The area here is very safe, even at night I didn't encounter any problems. Absolutely everyone was friendly and helpful when I asked for something. The way you approach people, that's how they respond to you.
Near the house are several bus stops (B103, B17, 42, BM2). 25 minutes walk away the subway (L Train). Information about it can be easily found on the Internet. But for convenience you can also order an Uber.
Conclusion: For someone who is looking for something individual, who can approach others openly and does not want to live in mass tourism hotel castles, this is exactly the right address. You are taking part in real life, not just a show. Full marks.
