Convenient location but in need of refurbishment and a deep clean

Convenient location close to the facilities and shop. The shower was good and the kitchen and bathroom were surface clean. There were some thoughtful touches for children, including toys and colouring pencils, which were appreciated. For a one night stay it was manageable.

Unfortunately, the caravan felt tired and in need of refurbishment. The carpet was badly worn and coming away, the sofas were ripped, stained and smelled of cigarette smoke once the covers were removed to use the sofa bed, and the mattresses throughout were uncomfortable. The twin beds are very small with thin mattresses, and the double bed was not particularly comfortable either. Cleaning appeared to be only superficial. We found dusty shelves, dirty fans, bugs in the light fittings, fake eyelashes and an earring left in the children’s bedroom, and the freezer compartment needed defrosting as the door would not shut properly. Personally, I would also prefer the cupboards to be emptied between guests rather than containing items left behind. The bathroom radiator was rusty, and the toilet stickers and bath mats made the room feel less hygienic than it could have. The plot is convenient but sits directly beside a busy road, so it wasn’t particularly peaceful. Although completely outside the owner’s control, the persistent smell from the nearby sewage treatment works was extremely unpleasant throughout our stay. I booked based on the high review score, but after our stay I revisited the reviews and would encourage future guests to read the written comments carefully rather than relying solely on the overall ratings . Many high ratings from the same names and what appears to be a pattern of high scoring familiar reviews following a series of what I perceive to be more realistic low scores.

The caravan was clean and comfortable. The host sent us detailed check in information and was very responsive to messages. It is in a quieter area of the holiday park with outside space around it.

The kitchen could have been better supplied with utensils: no corkscrew, bbq tongs, small plates and no sharp knife. Also no washing up bowl or plug that fitted the sink made clearing up difficult. Unfortunately we were not able to book any activities on the park as they were all booked up by the time we got the check information.
