About this cottage rental

A fine Anjou wine on the terrace of the country house as the sun sets over the vineyards, a boat ride on a traditional “gabare” (a traditional flat-bottomed Loire boat) on the nearby Loire—one of Europe’s last wild rivers—or a leisurely bike ride along its banks (the Loire Bike Path), a trip to the numerous historic Loire castles with their classic French gardens, to the Terra Botanica theme park, or to the 20-meter-high underground vaulted cellars “Mystère de Faluns” and their unique scenography; a visit to the world-famous Apocalypse Tapestries in Angers; or even a quick trip to the Atlantic Ocean (1½ hours drive) or to Paris (a 1½-hour train ride from Angers TGV)—the possibilities offered by this centrally located vacation rental in the Loire Valley are endless. Numerous wineries, excellent restaurants, and cozy bistros are located in the immediate vicinity. However, the 19th-century house and the garden—which offers a beautiful view over the countryside all the way to the Loire Valley—also invite you to reflect, relax, and meditate. Here, you can stay with up to ten people—whether with family or friends—and enjoy the French way of life. The well-equipped kitchen (induction cooktops, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, hand blender, food processor…) offers everything you need to cook and dine together. Shopping options (bakery, small supermarket) are available in the nearby village, 2 km away; a supermarket, an organic market, a shopping center, a post office, and banks are 7 km away. You also have three bedrooms: one bedroom with a double bed and an adjoining private bathroom (shower, sink, and toilet)—this room and bathroom are also wheelchair accessible—as well as a larger bedroom with a double bed and two single beds, plus a double bed on the loft above. Adjacent to this room is a second separate bathroom (shower, sink) and a separate toilet (with its own door). The third bedroom, featuring a double bed and its own private bathroom (shower, sink, toilet), is self-contained and accessible via the terrace. The terrace, paved with travertine stone slabs, features a small covered area, lounge chairs, a large table, benches, chairs, and a parasol. Additional seating areas are also available in the garden. The garden is surrounded by an old stone wall, allowing even younger children to play and run around outside on their own. The driveway, enclosed by a gate, offers two parking spaces. Additional parking is available directly in front of the entrance gate. The house was restored with great care, with the help of many good friends, family members, and craftsmen, using primarily eco-friendly building materials (insulation, paint, etc.) over the course of two years of uninterrupted, enthusiastic work and joy. Tuff stone, slate, hemp, lime, and terracotta tiles reflect authenticity and respect for tradition; even the two-hundred-year-old oak from the old wine press was refinished and reused to create the large bench in the living room. The large sliding doors in the kitchen, along with the windows and doorways in the living room and bedrooms, flood the entire apartment with light and lend it a certain modern touch. We’ve worked hard, redesigned, dreamed, recycled, sweated, and laughed—sharing many wonderful moments together as we’ve strived to bring our ideas and those of our many hardworking helpers to life. It has been—and continues to be—a truly special adventure. We’d be delighted if the location and atmosphere of our vacation home appeal to you, and we’d love to welcome you for a short or extended stay in Anjou. As a German-French couple, we’re also happy to communicate in German. A warm welcome—why not come this fall or next spring?
