Overall, I would give this rental a D. Most of that rating is compliments of the property management
We recently stayed at Cloud Bound to celebrate my mom’s 70th birthday. The siblings planned on renting a home to accommodate the whole family with fun for all and a great view to boot. Cloud Bound looked like the perfect fit.
All right, now let’s talk about the things we did like. The kitchen was pretty well equipped - a cookie sheet could come in handy, but everything else was functionally laid out and helpful, which was important since we prepared all of our meals in-house. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and linens were clean and plentiful. The arcade games were a huge hit for the grandchildren and they played nonstop. We ended up watching a DVD as a family in the main living area since that TV seemed functional (yes, we did try swapping DVD players for the theater, but that was still a bust). The hot tub was also a huge win. The property was spacious and well laid out with comfortable furniture for hosting a group of 13, like ours… though cramming everybody around a table with seating for 12 was a bit tight. The view was beautiful and the Smokies are always a win.
The property management company did end up, giving us a small refund, but it didn’t feel like it honored the loss of expectation (with the property had boasted on the rental website) or demand of documentation (the amount of pictures and notes we had to file with them to validate our problems).
After dinner, we finally got around to getting into the pool room. This is where our experience started tanking. The pool filter pump was turned off and the pool was freezing cold. We poked around in the utility room a little bit, but got nowhere and reached out to the property manager for help. They messaged us back and requested a million photos. After realizing that the pool was not as described, we started noticing a few other things that weren’t quite up to par. The Internet was down the entire time and kept telling us we were not on a secure network. We were given instructions how to restart the router and did so several times during our stay, but it never helped. There was zero Internet upload or download. Consequently, all of the smart TV functions in the theater room were null and void. Additionally, the DVD player did not work in the theater room. So now, the blazing fast Internet, the theater and the pool were all a complete loss for our stay. This was a disappointment since it was a huge determining factor of why we chose this property. Other factors that should be addressed: the back deck on the main floor has a very wobbly railing (we set some pretty strict rules about our children being on the deck without adult supervision), in all our interactions with the management company via text, email message and phone calls, we were never quite sure if somebody was going to actually fix any of our problems during our stay - there seemed to be a lack of ownership and responsibility on their end and instead of showing up to find solutions, they kept asking us for more pictures and more details. They did eventually send somebody to look at the pool and he managed to at least get the pump running so that the water was circulating again, but fixing the pool heater would not happen during our stay. A few maintenance issues of peeling wallpaper in the pool room and deck piers that seem to be buckling should probably be resolved soon to keep the property welcoming.
