Villa Forestata sits above the town of Lixouri which is opposite a small stretch of water from the capital Argostoli. Note that the inter-island ferry port of Poros is a 50 minute drive over the mountains to Argostoli, and although you can drive around the gulf to get to Lixouri, it is quicker to get the 15 minute ferry ... less driving and a better experience. Needless to say, you need a car.
Villa Forestata is 10 minutes away from the town, with a fantastic view of the water. It is quiet, clean and best of all run by a couple of local sisters who are terrific hosts. The dinners were home-made and delicious. We will be back.
