I was visiting South Haven for one night with my adult daughter. We enjoyed Historic Hotel Nichols very much and would not hesitate to stay there again. Todd was very helpful with restaurant recommendations and local information. The bed was comfortable. The shower was on the small side but fine. Good heat and water pressure. Don't skip the breakfast. The blueberry pancakes were amazing, as Michigan is known for their blueberries. Worth noting that there is no elevator. Fine for us, only 1 flight of stairs to climb and I heard Todd offering you help an older couple with their bags. Between 5 and 7pm there is free beer and wine in the lobby area. The lobby is ccmfortably furnished and guests shared their South Haven exploration stories during that time. Loved our night at HHN!

This is a very nice bed and breakfast style historic hotel in the heart of downtown South Haven. We walked or biked to everything since bikes are included with your stay.
Restaurants and bars - 3 blocks or less
Shopping - all of the surrounding city blocks have shopping
Waterfront dining - 1 block
Beach + pier - 7 blocks
Parking lot (public parking only) - 1 block or 3 blocks away
Movie theater - 1/2 block
Hilltop view of sunset over Lake Michigan - 8 blocks but very worth the view
Biking trail entrance - 3 blocks of less
As most have mentioned, the made to order breakfast is a nice touch!
Front desk is not managed full time, but help is a phone call away, so no real issue for us.
Overall, a great stay and would recommend!
