The room is really big with a tatami area where you can relax. You can move the beds around easily. Everyone in the front desk speaks fluent English. It has an old school key lock. It only has roughly 12 rooms. So even though it only has 1 washer, it was empty every time we have to use it. It also had an ice and water machine. It is in a quiet neighbourhood that is close to many shrines. The only minor complaint I have is there was a weird smell coming from either the washroom or the shower room. We had to turn the exhaust fan on the entire time to get rid of it. Also the TV was positioned in away such that it took me 5 minutes to connect the HDMI.

This was our second hotel on our tour of Japan. It is was more Japanese style than the previous hotel, and we loved it! Our room was an Executive Double and it was huge. The bed was only a double size but extremely comfortable. There was a low table on a raised tatami floor which accommodated 4 people. There was a fridge and tea/coffee facilities. The bathroom was Japanese style with wet a room shower and small, but deep bath tub. The amenities were ‘help yourself style’ in reception and plentiful. The bath salts were a welcome touch after long day sightseeing! The location was perfect for us. A stones throw from the canal and all the shops and eateries you could want. The laundry room was welcome for those of us travelling light and it was easy to use.
I would 100% recommend the Rinn Shirakawa South to anyone wanting a boutique, Japanese style hotel, in a quiet neighbourhood, just on the outskirts of the action.
