The room itself (room 1 deluxe) is well designed & sympathetically decorated to the age of the building giving a feeling of opulence meets modern. The toilet cisterns take ages to refill but I suspect this is due to the age of the plumbing! The bed is very comfy.
The downside to the room is that in the unprecedented heat there was inadequate little fan which meant leaving the french doors open during the night. This faced a main junction so traffic noise was an issue. The building itself is old & gorgeously quirky - this means narrow & uneven staircases & no lift.
If you are unsteady on your feet or have large / heavy cases this might not be the place for you. Very easy 2 minute walk to both the train station & into the city / cathedral.
The staff were helpful / drinks expensive!
I would stay here again though!

I needed a place near the Saxon sites and Cathedral. And it didn't hurt that the Westgate was just a five minute walk from the rail station. It's an old place, and it had the feel of the ages in the floors and doors. But that was part of the overall experience for me. It had charm. The staff was very accommodating, and I had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Westgate. It was all good. And it was across the street from the medieval Westgate to the city as well. I would stay there again if ever get the chance to visit the area again.
