Beautiful, comfortable and calming room with traditional tatami flooring, spacious seating area, and large private hot spring wood soaking tub that can fit two people comfortably. We appreciated the thoughtful amenities like slippers, pajamas and housecoats in our room, as well as a convenient room with free cold beverages on each floor. The lower level spa lounge also included free beverages (draft beer and liquor bar, hot coffee, soft drinks, etc), snacks, and ice cream and both the public and reservable private baths were spacious, beautiful and calming. The staff was very thoughtful and helpful, and we really enjoyed our fresh, well-prepared varied and generous breakfasts and dinners (come with an appetite!) , the complimentary matcha demonstration and tasting. A wonderfuly relaxing, calming way to begin a vacation in Japan!

This is a dream hotel. Truly. Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out. The staff was incredible-we felt like family, and they were so attentive and helpful. As Americans, this was our first ryokan experience and hopefully not our last because when I tell you they take care of you, I mean it earnestly. Our check in process was done in the dining room with a cold beverage and a mochi treat. We were then shown around the property as we made our way to the room and the room is gorgeous! There were no words other than a dream hotel room. Everything was perfect and beautiful and the view of the mountains was magical. It’s the perfect place to reset if you are traveling in Japan. I wish we would have stayed longer. We did the private onsen room so we had the bath on the balcony and I think in the 1 night we stayed I took 4 baths hahaha. It was so nice. My husband and I also ventured into the private onsen together and that was just as lovely too. We did the dinner and breakfast and I’m so glad we did. They fed us so well. The food was the best we had in Japan. We left feeling very full but in the best way. Thank you Suiun for being the most magical part of our Japan trip. We simply adored you.

If you are looking for an Onsen experience, Suiun is a nearly perfect place to stay. The rooms are very spacious by Japanese standards. Understand that no place in Japan provides dressers or closets. You get used to living out of your suitcase in tight spaces, so pack light. Suiun staff is so kind and thoughtful, the in room tubs are wonderful, the restaurant first class. There is a shuttle from a sister hotel, a few minute walk from the train, that will take you up the steep hill.
