8 / 10Excellent·Jul 2026
We stayed at the State House Inn for two nights and chose the property due to its close proximity to the Amtrak station, as we were in town to see the Union Pacific Big Boy #4014 on its coast-to-coast tour. The property was conveniently located two blocks from the station and close to the historic downtown. It was a particularly warm weekend, so we were thankful for the effective AC in both the hotel lobby and our room. The front desk attendant greeted us with a smile each time we passed through. Our room was spacious for our family and we did not notice any outside noise which made the stay comfortable as well. The continental breakfast was adequate -- nothing fancy, but we were satisfied.
The only improvement I'd like to have seen was a bit more attention to housekeeping. There were quite a few crumbs behind and under the sofa when we went to make the bed, and the ice bucket had not been cleaned and had some type of dried liquid in the bottom, so we did not attempt to use. Other than that, we were satisfied with our stay and would stay again if visiting Springfield.

The staff were nice, the sheets were dirty and the previous person left her eye lashes behind and the cleaning people just left them there. The front desk were just looking at the security cameras the whole time.
