Nice apartment, clean and well equipped.
I was told that due to a problem the first apt I booked was unavailable and I agreed to accept an alternative apt offered to me which was described to me as PRIVATE APARTMENT. No problem. The first morning I was in my nightclothes when a man appeared from another unknown bedroom. Very disconcerting to say the least! Apparently we were sharing the apt with other people. Vivienne, the owner, had not told us even though she had spent at least an hour with us the day before letting us in, etc etc etc. each family had our own bedrooms but bathrooms were across the shared living and kitchen space.
The second day I was Ill and needed to stay in bed all day. In the afternoon Vivienne let herself in, appeared in my room then proceeded to stay in the shared living space talking and having a guest there as if she were living there. To go to the bathroom I had to walk through the living room, past her and a total stranger in my nightclothes. This space was NOT a private apartment by any means. I was naturally upset and complained to Vivienne who took no responsibility but did agree to leave thank goodness and we agreed to continue there sharing the space as we were too tired to move and find another apt. at that late stage and also feeling unwell. If I had wanted a shared space I would have booked a hostel, and if I had wanted the owner to come and go at will feeling at home there I would have booked a homestay. I have never had a problem like this before and it was all quite upsetting.
Vivienne needs to be told that she has to be honest beforehand and understand her boundaries if she wishes to be successful renting her quite lovely apt. Certainly our expectations at renting a private apartment were not met.
