Location

There are hotels that promise a little slice of paradise, and then there is The Shore in Kota Kinabalu, which appears to have mistaken the concept of hospitality for a social experiment in human endurance. The room was bare, dirty and about as welcoming as a police interview room. The staff wore expressions suggesting that my arrival had personally ruined their day, and the absence of hot water meant that washing became less a daily ritual and more an exercise in building character. I had not travelled to Malaysia to develop character, but apparently this was the package I had purchased. The swimming pool, meanwhile, was supposedly out of bounds because of the weather. This was curious, as the weather was perfectly fine. The sky was behaving itself, the sun was shining, and there was not a cloud in sight that looked remotely capable of intimidating a swimming pool. One can only assume the pool had offended someone. Opening the window was another mistake. Directly across the road was a fish market, whose distinctive aroma promptly invaded the room and settled into everything with the determination of an unwanted houseguest. Before long, the place smelled as though a trawler had capsized where a wardrobe should have been.. Leaving was no less entertaining. Reception was unattended, leaving me unable to retrieve my deposit. Apparently, the hotel's commitment to customer service ends somewhere between handing over your money and attempting to get it back. In terms of atmosphere, the place reminded me less of a hotel than a bail hostel where the guests had all been sentenced to an indefinite period of disappointment. The difference is that people checking into a bail hostel presumably have some idea of what they're getting into. I booked through Booking.com, whose presentation of this establishment bore about as much resemblance to the reality as a glossy tourism brochure does to a municipal rubbish tip.

Cheap for a reason ( AVOID )

If you want to enjoy large crowds and to spend hours waiting to get into a lift to play a game of floor roulette for 30mins every time you leave and arrive, and to then enter into a foul smelling room and listen to the people In the flat above/below and left and right of you untill the early hours this is the hotel for you,

Not swimming pool friendly

Spacious room, comfy bed.

The view is not the same as shown in the picture. We thought the room was on the same or atleast near to the pool but our room is on the 23rd floor which is too far from the pool at the 6th floor.

the reception are not professional. give us the wrong key room. and i couldnt enter the room waited for 4hrs and decide

Location is superb convenience! When u got off the elevator boom, local markets, foods, thrift night market etc all around. So good for relaxing in city. The staff are pretty helpful and checkin process quite smooth. The room is spacious. I actually booked it for me and 2 of my friends and the room quite bigger than expected. Got basic kitchenette, decent toilet and comfy bed. Stay was comfortable.

Deposit. Understandable its for their own safety but its too huge. Be ready rm150 for deposit while the room price almost just half of the deposit. Checkin and checkout time quite surprising. I was taken aback to see the checkin time started at 3.00pm and checkout on 11.00am! This I hope they would revise it as it doesn't make sense at all. Other than that, all good. Will definitely stay here again if they choose to revise their checkin checkout time. But for now, maybe ill try another host or place for convenient of my time.
