Such a welcoming and chill place. Our room overlooked the main walkway along the river. It was so beautiful and not noisy (mid october on a friday). The room was huge, tatami floors, and nice bedding and thick duvet. And a separate toilet/sink area (shared bath really only means you have to share the shower facilities in the sauna area downstairs). We did not use the sauna/bath facility at hotel, so i cannot comment on that. there is a public onsen next store, that seems more old school, and not fancy per se, but was really lovely to soak in and not crowded. Breakfast was traditional japanese, which was fine with us, but if you are expecting eggs and bacon this is not for you. We wished we had stayed 2 nights, only because it was such a relaxing place. After checkout, we took our bag to the train station lockers, and spent the late morning going up the ropeway. We ate dinner at a local noodle place, which we loved. We do not eat huge meals at dinner, so we specifically chose this Ryokan because they do not serve dinner.
would have loved an espresso machine with milk at breakfast.

A delightful onsen hotel of medium size and only an easy 10 minute walk from the station. We were told the building is quite old but looks like it has recently been renovated in a traditional style with tatami mats everywhere (which means no shoes inside). Our lovely room was on the second floor (stair access only and because of the age of the building there are no lifts). It is beautifully decorated in the Japanese minimalist design but was large and had a calm, restful feel. Two large single beds that were very comfortable and the bedding was very nice. Windows that can be opened for fresh air or air conditioning. There are no bathing facilities in the room (just a modern toilet and separate wash-hand basin room) as all showering is done at the many public onsen baths and you end up washing at each onsen visit. The property provides Yukata to wear, and towels to take onsen hoping. Breakfast at the property was a lot of dishes and very traditional (including fish, salad, egg, yogurt etc) as well as coffee or tea. The food was beautifully presented and fresh. Our room faced the main road with the wonderful view of the river and weeping trees, other traditional buildings and the mountains covered in trees in the near distance. The town has many quality places to eat and is a delightful place to wonder and enjoy and it is right at your doorstep. We loved our 2 nights at Akaishiya and Yumi made our stay a delight. She was always there to greet us and ensure we had everything we needed, and made dinner reservations at local restaurants (both of which were the best food we have had in Japan) for us.
It was on the more expensive side but we will only get to Kinosaki Onsen once and it was a beautiful place to stay.

The green carpet and tatami mats were so calming. The view of the street and stream from the bedroom. The windows which opened to allow in the sounds and fresh air. Walking distance to the train station, Onsens, shopping and eateries galore at hand. I especially liked the naturalness of walking about town in the traditional gowns they provided.
No coffee maker in the room only tea . No private shower.

One of the most beautiful properties we ever visited
