About this apartment rental
La Maison al Fortino is a cozy home located in the historic center of Catania. It is adjacent to a highly prestigious historical and cultural site: Porta Garibaldi, known as “Il Fortino” or, as the locals call it, “’U Futtinu,” was built in 1768 to commemorate the wedding of Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies to Maria Carolina of Habsburg-Lorraine. This is the origin of its other name, Porta Ferdinandea. It marks the ceremonial entrance from the western part of the city of Catania. Walking along the adjacent Via Garibaldi, you reach the historic center of Catania: Via Etnea, Piazza Duomo, and Porta Uzeda—which serves as the southern exit from Piazza del Duomo and connects the seminary to the archbishop’s palace and the Cathedral of Saint Agatha, the Benedictine Monastery, Ursino Castle, etc. The very central area where the property is located offers various entertainment options such as bars, restaurants, and ice cream shops: you can enjoy traditional dishes from Catania and Sicily, as well as a wide range of international cuisine. The “Piscaria” (fish market) in the Piazza Duomo area and the “fera o luni” in the Piazza Stesicoro area (along Via Etnea) remain the most distinctive areas from a culinary standpoint
