Not worth the amount!

We recently stayed at AVJ Nest as a family of four. While there are some positives, there were several aspects of our stay that future guests may want to be aware of. What we liked: The owner seemed to be a nice person and regularly checked in with us to make sure everything was okay. The property also has some very good views and the surroundings are scenic.

Our biggest concern was our experience with the caretaker, Mr. Pandiyan. He was initially friendly and welcoming, but there were a few things that made us uncomfortable during the stay. First, the campfire charges were not explained to us upfront. The caretaker encouraged our children to spend some time around the campfire, and naturally we agreed. We stayed there for less than an hour before going to bed. Only later did we learn that there was an additional charge. Had this been communicated beforehand, we could have made an informed decision or at least spent more time enjoying it. At the time of our booking, we also did not see the additional campfire charge clearly mentioned on Booking.com. Privacy was another concern. The caretaker entered or came into the rooms several times quite casually, which made us uncomfortable as a family. Even before we had completed our checkout, he started coming into the rooms and mentioned that he had personal work and needed to leave. Guests should be given appropriate privacy and sufficient time to check out without feeling rushed. He also frequently joined our family conversations and spent considerable time talking about his personal life. While friendly interaction is appreciated, there should be a better balance so guests can enjoy their own family time and privacy. Food was average. The meals appear to be home-cooked by the caretaker’s wife. When we ordered idly for dinner, it was served with only one chutney and no sambar or other accompaniment, while the pricing felt closer to restaurant pricing. Better value and clearer pricing would improve the experience. Location is another important consideration. The property is quite far from Kodaikanal Lake and the town centre. Some stretches of the road were also in poor condition. During peak traffic, the journey from central Kodaikanal can take 40 minutes or more. There is only a small tea shop nearby, with very limited options for food, shopping or other conveniences. Noise ma

Excellent value for money

Excellent location perfect for those who wants to spend time out of a busy city life. While it is a few km from the main market it is surrounded by serene mountains. Loved the hospitality of Mr Pandy. He is very down to earth and kind person who took care of our family during the entire duration of our stay.

Nothing.
