If you are staying here, do not expect luxury or the comforts of living in a hotel or an apartment located in a urban, developed city. You are staying with two amazing locals, Tony and Dolores who have opened up their home to host you. (Anyway the price point should already make this very clear--it's a steal!!)
We were two women and the location was very safe. Tony's family has owned the land for generations and his extended family lives in the houses around theirs.
I booked this homestay mainly for its INCREDIBLE view of Opunohu Bay and that did not disappoint. But what made the stay so memorable was Tony and Dolores' hospitality. They gave us the best suggestions and tips about Moorea. They brought us fresh coconuts and also fruits from their garden so that we could try them--all for free! They also invited us to dinner with them and we got to enjoy an incredible home-cooked feast of yellowfin tuna tartare, yellowfin tuna carpaccio and cooked mahi mahi. It was DELICIOUS.
In our conversations (especially at dinner) I really loved learning more about their family and Tahitian culture.
And when we left, we were both gifted a beautiful Tahitian beaded shell necklace and Tahitian Monoi oil. Of course, Dolores explained to us the tradition behind gifting the beaded necklace and that the shells were from Huahine, the Tuamotus, and Opunohu Bay.

Opunohu Bay is quite humid and has a lot of dew overnight so it was sometimes hard for our gear to dry, but Dolores and Tony let us use the washer and dryer.
The hot water for the shower is created by a heater that uses a gas can heater, so if it runs out, just let them know and they can change it.
Insects and millipedes are attracted to the lights inside the house at night. We kept the windows closed to keep them out as much as possible. I also found that spraying DEET on the floor right at the doors helps to keep the non-flying insects from coming in.

The best thing about our first family holiday in French Polynesia was staying with Delores and Tony on Moorea. We can’t say enough about their friendly, welcoming home and the wonderful view from the balcony overlooking Opunohu Bay. They made us feel part of their family and we enjoyed living like locals for a brief time instead of in an impersonal hotel. Everything we needed and more was available in the two-bedroom/kitchen/balcony space. We watched World Cup football games with Tony, viewed stunning sunsets from the balcony and loved the snorkling at the nearby Plage De Tahiamanu. We were invited for a traditional meal with Tony and Delores and Tony showed us some amazing marine life. A wonderful time on relaxed Moorea. Thanks Delores and Tony – a bientôt, we will be back!!
