AVOID — Robbed, Insulted, and Cheated Out of Our Deposit I honestly wish I could give ZERO stars. This was, without exaggeration, the worst accommodation experience of our lives — and we only stayed ONE night. One night was enough to regret every single euro we spent. During our stay, we were ROBBED. An expensive designer bag was stolen from the apartment from locked baggage!!!!. Let that sink in: you come to beautiful Étretat for a relaxing getaway, and instead you leave as a victim of theft. The place clearly is not secure, and the owners could not care less about their guests' safety or belongings. And how did the hosts react? With shocking rudeness. No sympathy, no apology, no help — nothing. They were cold, dismissive, and outright HOSTILE from the very beginning. We have never encountered such unfriendly, arrogant, disrespectful hosts anywhere in the world. They treat guests like an annoyance, not like paying customers. The cherry on top? They are REFUSING to return our €300 deposit. Three hundred euros — simply kept, with no legitimate reason whatsoever. So to summarize our one-night "holiday": a stolen bag, €300 stolen deposit, and humiliating treatment from the owners. We didn't rent an apartment — we paid to be robbed twice and insulted for free. Do yourself a favor: book ANYWHERE else. There are plenty of honest, welcoming hosts in Étretat. These are not those people. If I could warn every traveler on this planet, I would. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.

Good location, no value for money and not good hosts.

Central location. Close to everything.

Unresponsive hosts. Took them 3 hours to respond for the wifi not working and after i contacted booking customer support. They gave us the code to enter the apartment at 16:05 with check in at 16:00. We were outside the apartment beforehand so I did not see the reason for that. There was no one cleaning up to 16:00 or something. The apartment was comfortable but not tidy. A lot of dust everywhere, coffee stains on the drawers in the kitchen and stuff on the floor on the top floor. I wouldn’t recommend it as it is too expensive for what it offers. Very basic stay.

Terrible experience: deposit pressure, extra charges, and poor conditions

Nice location, old 18 century house.

One of the worst rental experiences I’ve ever had. I paid €280 for one night, yet check in wasn’t available until 4:00 PM and check out was at 10:00 AM. In reality, you’re paying for much less than 24 hours. On top of that, the host charged €50 for every extra hour after checkout. The biggest issue was the security deposit. The host refused to send me the access code until I transferred the deposit directly to him instead of through Booking.com. At that point, I had no real choice because without the code I couldn’t access the property. After I checked in, the host started threatening to deduct money from my deposit. I was told I would be charged for every towel used and even for every pebble brought back from the beach. Ironically, there were already pebbles scattered around the property before I arrived. In the end, money was deducted from my deposit for using towels, even though towels are supposed to be included in the rental. The property itself was in poor condition. The terrace was dirty, several lights didn’t work, and some facilities were broken. The Wi Fi didn’t work because, as I was told, the internet service hadn’t even been paid for. The TV also didn’t work. The parking area is about a 20 minute walk away, which was not clearly communicated beforehand. Overall, it felt like the security deposit was being used as a way to extract additional money from guests rather than to cover legitimate damages. I cannot recommend this property and would strongly advise future guests to be extremely cautious before agreeing to send any deposit directly to the host.
