Summary:
Three bedrooms upstairs sleep up to eight: a super king that can be split into two singles, a double, and a twin room, with a sofa bed downstairs for two more. One family bathroom is upstairs and a second toilet is on the ground floor. Life here centres on the separate dining room, the corner sofa and a sunny back garden, enclosed all the way round, so children and dogs can play outside. Restaurants on Albert Road are about 16 minutes away on foot and the Canoe Lake seafront about 18.
The Space:
Sleeping
Bedroom 1: a UK super king bed (180 cm, close to a US king), made from two zip-and-link singles. If you would rather have two single beds, let us know before you arrive. This room also has a TV and a desk.
Bedroom 2: a UK double bed (135 cm, close to a US full).
Bedroom 3: two single beds, similar in size to US twin beds, suitable for adults or children.
Living room: a sofa bed that sleeps two.
Fresh linen and towels are supplied for every guest, along with spare pillows and blankets.
Bathrooms
Upstairs: a full bathroom with a bathtub and a shower over the tub. Ground floor: a separate toilet. A hair dryer and starter toiletries are provided.
Kitchen and dining
The kitchen has an oven, a stovetop, a microwave, a dishwasher, a refrigerator and freezer, a toaster, an electric kettle and a coffee maker, plus cookware, a baking sheet, dishes, silverware and wine glasses. The dining table has a room of its own next to the kitchen.
Living room
A large corner sofa, the sofa bed, a sound system and a flat-screen TV.
Outside
A private back garden, enclosed on all sides, with outdoor furniture and a sun lounger.
Everyday practicals
Wi-Fi, a washing machine and a tumble dryer, an iron, heating, room-darkening blinds, portable fans, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, a fire extinguisher and a first aid kit.
Travelling with children
Children and babies are welcome, and there are children's books, toys and tableware in the house. There is no cot or high chair, so please bring a travel cot if you need one. The bedrooms and bathroom are up a flight of stairs.
Bringing your dog
Up to three dogs are welcome and a pet fee applies, and the enclosed garden gives them space outside.
Good to know
With eight people staying, everyone shares the one full bathroom, and the ground-floor toilet helps at busy times of day. Two of the eight sleep on the sofa bed, so the living room doubles as a bedroom at night.
Guest Access:
The whole house and garden are yours. Self check-in by lockbox runs from 4 pm to 9 pm and check-out is by 10 am. Street parking is in the MH residents' zone with one permit included; tell us your car's details in advance. Ask us about a permit for a second car.
The Neighborhood:
Maxwell Road is in Milton, a quiet residential neighborhood in eastern Southsea. Within a ten-minute walk there's a Co-op and a Tesco Express for groceries, the Highland Road shops, the Park Cafe, and Milton Park, a green space for a morning dog walk. Fratton Park, home of Portsmouth FC, is about 13 minutes on foot. Albert Road, with its restaurants and live music, is about 16 minutes, and Canoe Lake and the seafront promenade are about 18, with South Parade Pier along the front. For family days out, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower are around 7 to 8 minutes' drive, and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, with its warships and museums, about 12.
Getting Around:
The nearest station is Fratton, about 18 minutes' walk, with direct trains to Brighton, Southampton and London Waterloo. By car, the Portsmouth ferry port is about 9 minutes away and Queen Alexandra Hospital about 14.
