If you're still looking for a place in Takayama- STOP! This is your spot! A huge bedroom upstairs with large soft covers. Both heater and aircon available for you. There is a sitting area so you can read or watch TV. Downstairs is the bathroom, shower and dining area suitable for four adults. All the amenities to cook a meal, and breakfast gets delivered by the lovely owner. After a month of travel throighout Japan, this has been by far the BEST value and the most space! Just book your stay here and believe me.
I loved everything BUT if you don't do stairs easily, this may not be for you. One most go down a flight to get to the toilet in the night- the way is lit well, but it can be a bit steep. If you are taller than six feet, there are two places where you have to remember to duck, but this is normal in traditional Japan homes.

Toreruno is a traditional old house which has been decorated and furnished with care by the owner to give a genuine feeling of Japan. We certainly felt it as visitors from Europe. The host and owner was delightful and she made us feel very welcome from the time we arrived until we left. The house is very well equipped. It is centrally located within walking distance of the sights of Takayama and of shops and restaurants. It is also just a ten minute walk from the railway station. We enjoyed our stay very much
