My guidebook recommended that people visiting the Karak Castle not stay in Karak. I needed to stay in Karak because I was hiking the Jordan Trail. I found the room to be clean, basic, and inexpensive. The host Ahmed is very accommodating. The area seems very safe. On the north end of downtown, still within the old city, is a great restaurant called Qasr Zaman. That should be another reason for staying in Karak.
I wish the bed had sheets in addition to the microfleece or velour-like mattress cover and duvet. Maybe that was a Jordanian thing. Or maybe I should have asked for linens. But I slept just fine.

The hotel is dated and small, but it is clean and comfortable. We were given sheets to put on the bed. They were stained, but clean. They send the address to check in at Mu'ab Restaurant, where you get a nice welcome tea before you are shown to your room doen the road. The restaurant has very good food. We ate dinner and breakfast. The castle is just a few doors away and is a great castle to explore. The staff at hotel ad restaurant are very nice and helpful. .

The owners were very welcoming and helpful, the location is just one minute away from the castle. The rooms were clean and also supplied well (even with extra blankets and free water).
We were staying during Ramadan on Friday evening so it was very noisy on the night from the street. The shared bathroom was clean but other guests keep throwing paper in the toilet (maybe a sign could help?). Also nobody was there for checkout in the morning.
