We spent a wonderful month at Tirta Sari Villas, which can only be described as a little slice of paradise. The villas have an authentic Balinese charm, surrounded by lush jungle and beautiful rice terraces. We stayed in one of the lower villas, with spectacular views over the terraces.
The team were incredibly friendly, welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. The infinity-style pool overlooking the rice terraces was beautiful and usually very peaceful. We also loved the spa and would highly recommend a massage! The restaurant serves simple, tasty food at reasonable prices.
It’s the perfect place for nature lovers, those who enjoy the sounds of the jungle, and anyone looking for a peaceful, rural Ubud experience away from the crowds.
A few tips for future guests:
* The villa is around 6–8 minutes by scooter from beautiful rice terraces, cafés and restaurants, 20 minutes from some excellent gyms, and approximately 30 minutes from central Ubud.
* We’d recommend hiring a scooter if you’re an experienced rider. It makes exploring much easier and helps avoid traffic, but the steep hills and sometimes chaotic roads aren’t suitable for beginners. If your taking a passenger a scooter with at least 160cc is ideal for the steep hills, also look for one with good braking and ABS is possible.
* There’s a nearby M Mart selling most everyday essentials, including sunscreen, insect repellent and toiletries and snacks.
Nothing that negatively affected our stay, but it’s worth setting expectations!
This is an authentic, rural Balinese villa rather than a high-end Western-style luxury resort. Being surrounded by nature means you’ll occasionally find insects in your room, although the resident geckos do a wonderful job of keeping them under control. We even had our own little pet gecko! :D
The location is beautiful and peaceful, but it’s relatively remote, with steep roads and limited walking options. You’ll ideally want your own transport or be comfortable arranging drivers. Traffic increase journey time significantly if taking a grab car.
For us, these were all part of the charm, but they may not suit everyone.

Words can‘t describe how beautiful this place is! Absolutely amazing views from the restaurant, the pool and of course the villas themselves. The floating breakfast was a highlight, but we loved every other breakfast as well as we couldn’t get enough of the rice terrace views.
There was nothing that we didn‘t like, everything was just perfect!

My wife and I spent 3 nights here, and it was the best part of our time in Indonesia! The staff were very helpful, the views were beautiful, and the whole area was so peaceful. The bed was also very comfortable. We really miss our time here and hope to come back one day.
We loved the towel decorations on the bed. Thank you to whoever made them!
We also joined the free short tour of the rice fields and learned quite a lot about how rice is grown.
The only downsides were that it wasn’t possible to buy regular coffee at the bar (apart from Bali coffee), and the water pressure in the bathtub was so low that it was almost impossible to use it properly:(
