Wonderful Apartment in Madrid!

The owner was very attentive and available. We had difficulty with the door lock and he came in person to help us. The apartment had everything you could need. Very clean and very comfortable beds. We would stay here again and refer friends.

The door lock was challenging to maneuver.

Do not book if you value your life

Location, clean

I don't know how to summarise my experience but I will try...The bathroom in the apartment has no ventilation (which is illegal) and I got locked inside because the handle of the door broke. What happened next was horrible - the owner did not want to come and help, neither he rang to a specialist to come and open the door because his insurance would not cover the cost of 400euro. Basically he wanted to leave me inside until the next morning because he estimated that my life and my sanity does not cost 400 euro!!! Imagine being in a small confined space, no window, no airflow and the only way out is blocked. You cannot do anything to get out. However I was lucky enough that I rented the flat with a friend. After we argued for 2 hours with the owner, while I was getting more and more anxious inside the locked airless bathroom, my friend called 112 and the fireman came and opened the door and I could go out. Consequently we were told that we need to cancel the reservation and leave the apartment the next morning. The owner shouted at me on the phone, while I was still in stress after the whole situation. He said that I will not be compensated for my troubles and even more that we should be thankful that we could stay in the apartment until the next morning. He also added he is a lawyer, so no one can touch him and he knows best. As per Booking.com - they did not provide any help during the night the accident happened - they did not provide any help with relocating - they did provide fair compensation - they refused to take any responsibility for the condition of the apartment they rent via their platform - they gave us minimum compensation and stop taking the phone calls to avoid dealing with the issue. If you want to get humiliated by the owner of this apartment and then be humiliated again from booking.com, that is your choice.
