Very DISTURBING experience. Please be careful of being scammed.
Property is close to the station. It’s also large. Despite withholding our booking from us (explained below) Lina did try to make meaningful efforts to rectify the situation. She drove us to our reservation, waived the ¥60,000 pet fee, and ultimately provided our original apartment. We genuinely appreciated her kindness and thanked her.
We got this for four nights (¥285,000). Upon arrival, Lina informed us that it’s been double-booked and offered us a tiny one-bedroom cramped apt (not listed on booking.com) for ¥200,000, to be paid in cash. FYI, another two-bedroom apt in the same bldg was advertised for ¥27,000/night (¥108,000/ four nights), yet we were being charged almost twice!
Lina asked us to cancel this reservation, said she would incur substantial fees if she canceled it herself. Assured us we wouldn’t be charged cancellation fees so I initiated it.
I explained that we didn’t have a Japanese bank a/c, withdrawing ¥200,000 would cost us additional fees. I proposed keeping our original reservation and receiving the ¥85,000 difference in cash from her instead. She refused.
Lina repeatedly directed us to a convenience-store ATM and insisted on receiving cash that night. When I explained that we were late for our reservation and offered to pay the following morning, she refused again, saying we could pay her at 11 p.m., midnight, or even 1 a.m. She insisted on receiving at least the first installment that night.
Most concerningly, she refused to approve our fee-free cancellation until we handed over the cash, despite having asked us to initiate the cancellation because of her property’s alleged double booking. At one point, she barged into the room when we are changing our clothes.
Negotiations took nearly an hour and when we were at dinner, she informed us that our original booking was somehow available. We finally moved our things and dogs into the apt at approx 1 a.m., without any explanation of how the supposed double booking had been resolved.
The size difference between the apts was astonishing. Yet, cleanliness was still an issue. The toilets were dirty, and there was visible mold on the trays holding the drinking glasses. The listing also advertised parking, but only had regular paid parking facilities.
