It is a nice cottage but the drive and a few other small but important issues let it down.

Cottage was well equipped, comfortable and warm set in a quiet location. Nice enclosed garden for the dog.

I couldn’t get into the property as the key safe wasn’t working. It took over an hour to phone the company and get someone out to sort it. This could have been avoided if the safe was properly maintained, a bit of DW40 did the trick. The parking isn’t great. The property is on a quiet road but just beyond the brow of the hill. Cars are supposed to be driving at 30mph but most weren’t. The upgraded reinforced grass verge doesn’t work. It isn’t wide enough to leave a car there without risk and I skidded on it trying to reverse as there was too much soft ground on it. I have an average family car and it only just fitted into the driveway which you have to reverse into up quite a steep incline and it is narrow. I don’t think you would get some of these wide SUVs in there. I noticed in the handbook left in the cottage that you could park in a lay-by just down the road which was much easier. This information should be in the parking instructions issued when you book, not much use after you have arrived. The parking issue is exacerbated by a very wide gate which you have to open and close every time you go in and out. I was on my own so didn’t have anyone to help me in and out or go up the road to the brow of the hill to look for traffic! The best way to negotiate the drive was to park on the verge opposite the property with hazard warning lights on, open or close the gate and then either drive away or reverse into the drive when nothing was coming. The catch on the gate was also broken so it swung back over the drive with the slightest bit of wind. I had to use one of the boulders on the side of the path which was loose to secure the gate open. There were also a few snags in the cottage, the front left hob ring didn’t seem to work, the push plug in the basin in the bathroom kept popping up. I also had to stand on a chair to reach the shower switch which was above the bathroom door, not great for health and safety.
