The George Hotel

We had a comfortable stay, and the location was very convenient for exploring the city. Although the room wasn't particularly large, it had been recently renovated, featured a double bed, and was clean, comfortable, and well suited to our short stay. This is a straightforward, no-frills property with the essential amenities, and it met our expectations. For international travellers, it's worth noting that air conditioning is not a standard feature in many UK hotels, so it's worth checking before booking if this is important to you. A fan is provided for warmer weather. Similarly, bar fridges are not commonly included in UK hotel rooms, so it's best not to expect one. As the property is an older building, some noise transfer is to be expected. Sound carries along the corridors, and the timber floors do creak in places. During our stay, our sleep was occasionally interrupted by the fire door opening and closing, as it does not have a soft-close mechanism. This was more noticeable when other guests were moving through the corridor. A soft-close device or a small reminder encouraging guests to close the door quietly could help minimise noise. There is also a bar, 1597, located next door within the property grounds. It offers a good selection of meals that we found to be delicious and reasonably priced, making it a convenient dining option.
